There is no school for songwriters except the school of hard knocks and that school is filled with lies, myths, half-truths, and misinformation. I hear it everyday. Some of these myths have been around for over 50 years. Talented, you may well be. Educated about your chosen career--doubtful. Lacking the skills and knowledge on how to handle a career is a wreck waiting to happen. This can and does cost writers thousands of dollars in major mistakes and assumptions. Sometimes it derails a promising career. This applies to the artist, producer, publisher and managers as well. My long and varied experience has shown that most writers are sadly lacking in the business of music. Most professions/careers have at least a trade school that teaches you the how of the work expected from you. Trade schools and colleges are not cheap and cost thousands of dollars. For some strange reason, songwriters think they do not need an education about their chosen career because they are talented (for that matter, many artists, producers, publishers and managers are all paddling the same canoe). Writers tend to cheap out and do not want to pay to learn about their own career. They don’t attend seminars or buy books and they shrug off critiques as "opinion". That is too bad. Painters, sculptors, actors, dancers, journalists, movie producers, directors and those who play instruments all go to school to be educated about their chosen career. As a songwriter, you owe it to yourself to know how your career works. What I offer you is over 35 years of real experience. I can save you thousands of dollars and time wasted spinning your uneducated wheels in the sands of failure. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF |
